Acne is something we have all suffered from at one time or another. If you are unsure of what it is; acne is a chronic skin disease affecting the sebaceous glands. You can generally see it on the face but others will have some on the back and chest areas. What causes acne? When the glands become excessively active due to hormonal or other imbalances; it will cause an over-production of sebum. Sebum is an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands and when there is too much being produced, it will end up clogging the openings and result in a big red dot that can at times be painful. Acne is most common during the period of puberty and can be aggravated by some imbalances in the body.
Acupuncture can have a really great effect on treating acne. Using a mixture of pressure points to help enhance your immune system, stabilize hormones and using points that are local to the affected area we can help get rid of this chronic skin disorder. If you are dealing with a hormonal imbalance, it is not just going to affect your skin. There are many other symptoms or conditions that may arise such as anxiety, high blood pressure, mood swings and infertility. With acupuncture we can help treat the whole body, which will get rid of the acne and will also help with any other conditions that may be affecting you.
One thing to keep in mind is that acupuncture is not instant. It requires many treatments depending on the severity of the condition. A thorough assessment will be conducted when you come in for your first treatment and this will give you an idea of how many treatments should be expected.
